"And
it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes
and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword
drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou
for us, or for our adversaries? And he said, Nay; but as captain of the
host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth,
and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant?
And the captain of the LORD'S host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from
off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did
so." -Joshua 5:13-15 -The Old Testament
They come
from above. From a kingdom known as heaven. The Bible calls them "Angel
of the Lord" and "Captain of the Lord's host." They seem to appear out
of nowhere. They appear at turning points in our planet's future. They
come with unspeakable power given to them by God. Their mission is clear:
to confront and to participate in a conquest. Even to those who know they
exist, their purpose is not always immediately evident. To those that find
favor in their sight, there is no greater weapon. To those whom they have
been sent to fight, there is no greater terror.
You
may have heard of some of their conquests: Jericho, Sodom and Gomorrah,
the Canaanites, Philistines and Egyptians. You may have heard of their
victors: Abraham, Moses, Jacob, Gideon, Elijah, Ezekiel and the Prophets.
They usually appear to the humble and meek servants of God, not the high
ranking generals and military establishment of the day.
There
have been those who claim that these 'Messengers' are alien beings from
another world. However, the majority of Biblical accounts clearly show
these 'Messengers' to be far beyond the limited powers of an extraterrestrial
visitor. When the 'Messengers' appear, you don't have a threat or an isolated
abduction. You have a fiery inferno leveling a complete city or a whole
nation being uprooted and driven out!
God
doesn't need flying saucers or big-eyed, large cranium midgets to perform
physical exams to find out what is happening down here. The 'Messengers'
just appear, discuss the situation with a chosen godly individual, and
then disappear. The correct tactical response is always soon to follow.
"Be
wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.
Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest
he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but
a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him." -Psalms 2:10-12
-The Old Testament
